The Benefits of Pure Honey
Pure or raw honey is the natural product of honey bees, filtered in many cases to take pieces of honeycomb and other materials out. We only use the highest quality pure honey!
Most honey found in supermarkets has been pasteurised to even out any inconsistencies, kill unwanted yeast and remove crystallisation. This also, however, destroys the enzymes and nutrients. Pure honey is:
- Great source of antioxidants – these protect the body’s cells from damage, like ageing or some cancers. These antioxidants come from the phytonutrients in the honey.
- Nutrient-rich – generally, one tablespoon or 21g of raw honey contains 64 calories and 17g of sugar (approx. 40% fructose and 30% glucose). It also contains amino acids, enzymes and many minerals and vitamins.
- Antibacterial and antifungal – raw honey demonstrates antibacterial and antifungal properties in internal and topical treatments. This also prevents raw honey from going off.
- Wound healer – honey has been shown to have microbial inhibition and wound healing abilities.
- Prebiotic and good for digestion – raw honey has beneficial prebiotics that promote digestion, stop diarrhoea and treat stomach ulcers.
- Soothe a sore throat and cough – this is an age-old remedy to treat throat infections, and in many cases far better than any over-the-counter medicines.
- Promotes brain health – the polyphenols in raw honey promote brain health and increase cognitive functions.
- Equalises blood pressure – raw honey can reduce high, and increase low blood pressure… how does it know?
- Regulates cholesterol – raw honey helps increase ‘good’ cholesterol and helps the body fight the ‘bad’ cholesterol.
- Great hair and skin treatment – it acts as a moisturiser for skin and hair and works as an anti-bacterial toner that slows down ageing.
